Blew $120 on an AI resume tool that just rewrote my bullets into corporate gobbledygook
I know everyone's hyped on AI tools right now but I gotta warn you about the one I tried for job hunting last month. Dropped $120 on a subscription to one of those AI resume builders that promises to 'optimize' your experience for ATS systems. It took my simple bullet about managing a team of 8 and turned it into three sentences of buzzword soup that didn't even sound like me. Sent it to a recruiter friend in Austin and she said it read like a robot trying to be a human. Has anyone found an AI tool that actually helps without making you sound like a LinkedIn parody?
My buddy went through the same thing last year with one of those AI resume services. He paid around a hundred bucks and the thing turned his cashier job into something about "driving revenue synergies in a fast paced retail setting." He showed it to me and we both laughed because it didn't sound like him at all. What actually worked for him was just sitting down with a friend who hires people and rewriting the bullets together. Took one afternoon and zero dollars. Sometimes the fake smart tools make things worse, not better.
