Tried using AI to write my cover letters vs writing them myself for a month

I spent January applying to jobs two ways. For the first 15 applications I used ChatGPT to draft my cover letters. Just pasted the job description and my resume and let it go. Got zero callbacks. Then I switched to writing them myself, keeping them short and focusing on one specific thing I did at my last job that matched what they wanted. I tailored each one to the company's actual projects. Out of the next 15 applications I got 4 interviews. The AI letters were too generic and sounded like everyone else. Has anyone else seen a big difference between AI generated and your own work on applications?

Right, because getting rejected by a robot you asked for help is a new kind of insult. I tried the same thing and my AI letter called a small marketing agency "a dynamic industry leader" when their website was literally a Geocities throwback. My own letters actually mentioned the weird stuff they did, like the time they made a commercial with a rapping squirrel. The robots just don't know about the rapping squirrel, and that's what gets you hired.
