Heard a radon detector beeping in a show home and it stopped me cold

I was touring a new build in Airdrie last weekend and the realtor brushed off a beeping sound from the basement utility room. She said it was just the furnace cycling, but I asked to take a closer look and saw a radon monitor with a red light. I took a picture of the model and looked it up later - the beeping means levels above 200 Bq/m3. It made me wonder how many homeowners just ignore those alarms or don't even have detectors. Has anyone else caught something like this during a viewing?

Ngl that's wild she just brushed it off like that. A red light beeping in a basement is a huge red flag, not just a furnace thing.

Did you ask the realtor why she thought a furnace cycles with a beeping red light? That's a pretty specific sound to just wave off.

My buddy runs a home inspection company and he walked out of a showing in Cochrane last month because the seller's radon meter was taped over with duct tape, lmao. He popped it off and it started screaming at over 300 Bq/m3. Realtor tried to say the tape was just for "holding the cord", but come on.
