The day my neighbor's sprinkler flooded my basement, twice

Last summer in Edmonton, my neighbor's fancy smart sprinkler system glitched and ran for 6 hours straight, sending water right into my window well and flooding half my basement. First time it cost me $900 in new drywall and a dehumidifier rental. The guy apologized, fixed it, and I thought we were good. Then last week it happened again, same exact spot, and now I'm sitting on soggy carpet wondering if I should just install a proper drainage grate or take him to small claims. Anyone else have a neighborly water disaster that just keeps repeating?

You ever see a dog dig up the same spot in the yard no matter how many times you fill it in? My buddy had a neighbor with a sump pump that kept dumping right at his fence line, flooded his toolshed twice before he finally built a little berm. Second time he just stood there with a beer watching it happen like it was a nature documentary.
