Just realized my bank's loan algorithm flagged me as high risk for paying off debt early

I was checking my credit report last week after getting denied for a small personal loan and found a note from my bank's automated system that penalized me for a $2,000 lump sum payment on my car loan. Turns out their model sees early payoff as unstable behavior, not responsible money management. Has anyone else run into a situation where an algorithm punished you for doing the smart thing?

Paying off a $2,000 loan early cost you that denial, not reward.

Nah, I actually think the bank might have a point here even if it feels backwards. Paying off debt early can sometimes mess with their profit model since they make money on interest over time, so it's not really about punishing you for being smart. They just have a different view of what "stable" means in their little algorithm world.

Used to think banks were just being greedy about early payoff. But hearing this makes me reconsider. If their whole system is built around steady interest payments, I guess paying off debt fast does look like a red flag to them, even if it's totally reasonable for us.
