The human found zero problems and I got the place, which makes me wonder how many renters in Phoenix with thin credit files get auto-denied by a scoring model nobody will explain. Has anyone actually gotten a straight answer from a landlord about what their screening software is scoring on?
Man, the thing nobody talks about is that these scoring models are often built on data that has nothing to do with paying rent. Some of them pull from places like utility collections, cell phone bills, even how often you moved in the past few years. So a guy who paid his rent on time for a decade but had one old Sprint bill go to collections gets flagged as high risk while some dude with a fat credit line but a history of trashing rentals slides right through. The software isn't grading you as a renter, it's grading you as a credit consumer, and those are not the same thing at all. That's why the human found nothing, because the human was actually looking for the stuff that matters.
