Spotted bias in a hiring algorithm demo at a tech conference in Austin last week
I went to a big AI ethics panel at SXSW and one company showed off their hiring tool. It was scoring candidates and I noticed it kept ranking people lower who had gaps in their resume for caregiving. The presenter didn't even mention it when I asked. Has anyone else seen similar blind spots in these tools?

Yeah because nothing says "fair hiring process" like automatically punishing people for having a life outside of work. The presenter probably didn't want to admit their algorithm had a built in bias against anyone who ever took time off to raise a kid or care for a sick parent. Guess they forgot to code in common sense as a feature.

Right? I always ask how they handle career breaks in interviews now.
