The week my spam filter flagged my boss as a phishing risk
Last Wednesday our HR algorithm started rejecting internal job applications from anyone over 50. A coworker of mine, 52, got auto-rejected for a transfer he was basically guaranteed. The system had been trained on promotion data from the last 5 years, which somehow taught it younger candidates were safer bets. Has anyone else seen age creep into their hiring algorithms like this?

it actually happened to a buddy of mine at a big retail chain. he's 54 and put in for a shift supervisor spot he'd been doing for years on an interim basis. the system kicked his application back saying he didn't meet the "cultural fit" criteria and then suggested a 23 year old college kid with zero experience for the job. he had to go over three levels of management to get a human to look at it, and even then they tried to blame it on a "glitch" until he showed them the rejection email word for word. it's wild how these algorithms just quietly turn into discrimination machines and nobody catches it until someone makes a stink.
