Guy at a Dayton hamfest sold me a 'signal booster' in a taped up box and I still think about what he said
Back in April I was at a hamfest outside Dayton and this older guy with shaky hands sold me a little black box for $30 labeled as a signal booster, then told me quietly that the real stuff 'doesn't come from above us, it comes from inside the box itself.' I opened it at home and found a single etched wafer with no solder points I could find, plus a sticky note with a number and the words 'ask about 27.' I've searched that number everywhere and gotten nothing, so is there anyone here who has run into a wafer like that or heard the phrase 'ask about 27' before?
A wafer with no solder points means it was never connected to anything, so the whole thing is just a prop some guy unloaded on you for $30 at a flea market. The note is the oldest trick there is, a made up number that keeps you chasing instead of asking for your money back.
