I used to think dubs were always worse than subs...

For years I refused to watch anything but subs, figured the original voice acting was always better. Then I caught a clip of the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood dub on YouTube and the voice for Armstrong was just perfect, totally fit the character. I gave it a real shot for 3 episodes and now I'm watching the whole series dubbed... has anyone else found a dub that actually changed their mind?

...so my buddy Dan was the same way, totally against dubs. He thought they were all like the oldschool 4kids stuff. Then he got stuck watching the Cowboy Bebop dub at a friend's place during a power outage. He didn't have a choice. He said Steve Blum as Spike just clicked in a way the sub never did for him. Now he's got the whole series on Blu-ray and only watches it dubbed. Weird how one good performance can flip your whole opinion.

Man, your buddy Dan was lucky that power outage forced him into Cowboy Bebop's dub, it's definitely one of the best. One small thing though, @gibson.morgan, Steve Blum wasn't the original Spike in the first English dub release for the movie "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" back in 2001; that was David Lucas, but Blum took over for the series and made it his own. Still, your point stands that a great performance can completely change someone's mind on dubs.

33 bucks says his buddy Dan is now the kind of guy who argues that dubs are BETTER than subs because you can "catch the animation details." I've seen that exact flip happen to like four different people, all thanks to either Cowboy Bebop or Fullmetal Alchemist. Next thing you know, Dan will be defending Ghost Stories' dub as a "masterpiece of localization." Watch your back.
