I read that over 30% of no-heat calls on older gas dryers are just a clogged thermal fuse, not the ignitor. Found that stat in a trade magazine from 2022.

Would your buddy check the fuse first? That trade magazine stat lines up with what I've seen. A blown thermal fuse cuts power to everything, so it looks just like a bad ignitor. If you don't test the fuse with a meter, you'd never know. Replacing the ignitor on those dryers is a much bigger job than swapping a five dollar fuse.

Read an article last year about dryer service calls. The guy writing it said a lot of techs jump straight to replacing the ignitor. They don't check the simple stuff first. He mentioned lint buildup in the vent can cause the thermal fuse to blow. Makes sense if the heat can't get out.

My buddy who fixes appliances says it's almost always the ignitor on those models. He sees that way more than a bad fuse.
