Spent $200 on a 'universal' dryer motor that fried itself in 3 days
The cheap import didn't have the thermal overload protection the OEM part did, and now I'm eating the cost of the call-back and the replacement. Anyone know a solid supplier for Whirlpool direct-drive motors that won't melt?

Check Appliance Parts Pros, they list the thermal fuse as a separate part number for a reason. That universal kit probably left it out.

Hate when that happens, those universal parts are such a gamble. Cole_flores44 is right about the thermal fuse being separate, but it's not just a fuse missing. The whole motor build is different, the windings can't take the heat like an OEM. You need the exact part number from your model's tech sheet, not just a "fits all" listing. Good suppliers will ask for that model number to make sure you get the right one with the internal overload built in. I've had good luck with Repair Clinic because they show the exploded diagrams so you can see all the pieces.

Yeah, @diana_kim66 makes a good point about the windings being different. So even if you find a part with the right fuse, is the motor itself just built cheaper? I wonder if the OEM ones are actually using better copper wire.
