I spent $80 on a metal detector for my backyard and found nothing but pull tabs
I got excited about finding old coins or relics, but after digging up a dozen holes over a month, I only got modern junk. Anyone have a better approach for a beginner on a budget?

Oh man, my buddy had the same thing happen... he got so fed up he just started scanning the local park instead. Found a silver ring his second day out, way less junk. Maybe try a public spot that's seen a lot of people over the years.

Honestly, I read that old picnic spots are weirdly good for coins.

Parks can be good, but @jamesf29, my best finds actually come from those junky spots. Old house tear-downs with tons of foil and nails often hide a single old coin or button that everyone else missed. You gotta dig through the trash to find the treasure, you know?
