inHot take: The Grand Canyon is actually better at sunrise than sunset and here's why
Mather Point at 5am two years ago I would have told you sunset was the only show in town. But I showed up for a sunrise hike with clients and it totally flipped my view. The light was totally different, that deep orange hitting the canyon walls like a spotlight. You can see every little crack and ridge in the rock, way sharper than the hazy sunset glow. Plus the silence was incredible, just the wind and a few birds. Now I tell everyone to get there before dawn.

inThe fact that 90% of all anime ever made is lost media kind of blew my mind...
barbara_grant4 gets it, that Netflix thing stings but this is a whole different level of loss. It's wild to think some random show you vaguely remember from your childhood might not even exist on tape anymore. Makes you want to grab whatever obscure discs or files you can find before they disappear too.

inPro tip: cleaning sensor with a toothpick tip saved my Canon 5D
Yeah the fiber thing is just like how cheap paper towels leave lint all over your kitchen counters.

inPSA: The $20 Wyze cam v3 hack for night vision actually worked
Honestly, that's exactly what happened to me a while back. I was messing around with a cheap IR filter I got off ebay and it was just terrible, all washed out and blurry. Then I remembered I had this old Hoya R72 filter my dad gave me that he used for black and white film back in the day. Slapped it on my digital camera and the shots came out way sharper with way less color cast than the new one. Ngl, it felt like cheating, but it worked so much better.

inFound a way to shave 3 miles off a loop in the Shenandoahs
Yeah, I feel you on that. Last year I was hiking near Old Rag and found a similar faded cut on a 1970s topo map that saved me maybe two miles, but I ended up crossing a creek that was way higher than expected and had to double back. It's a weird spot to be in because part of me loves the thrill of finding something the apps don't show, but the other part knows you're right about the risk. I've had my share of bushwhacking nightmares too, like that time a trail just turned into a deer path and I was crawling under rhododendrons for half a mile. I still carry a paper map for emergencies, but I always check with a ranger before I trust any old line on it.
