Finally got my kid to brush for two minutes without a fight

We turned it into a game with a timer and silly songs. It's been a week of smooth mornings now. How do you handle tricky routines with your family?

Three months ago we let our six year old be in charge of setting up the whole bathroom for brushing. He picks which cup, which toothpaste, and lays out both brushes. That tiny bit of control flipped a switch. He stopped arguing because he helped make the plan. It turned a power struggle into a shared job, and now he even reminds me if I skip a step. Giving them a real role in the routine, not just a game, made our evenings way calmer.

Yeah the "real role in the routine" part is so true. I read something similar about choice theory, how even small choices make kids way more likely to cooperate without a fight.

Find that sometimes choices just give them more to argue about.

My nephew fights less about bedtime since he got to pick his own lamp, lol.
