Heard a guy at the coffee shop say he stopped Googling things and started asking random people questions
I was grabbing a latte near downtown Portland yesterday and this older guy told his friend he gets better answers from strangers than from search results. He said people give him stories, not just links, and that stuck with me. I tried it with my neighbor about fixing a squeaky door hinge and got a whole trick involving candle wax I never would have found online. Anyone else run into something useful just by talking to someone out of the blue?

Hold up, wait. Candle wax? For real? I've been fighting a squeaky bedroom door for like six months, tried WD-40 and everything, and this whole time some guy in Portland just gives away the secret to a stranger? That's wild to me. I mean, maybe it's just me, but I feel like half the stuff I find on Google is either way too complicated or sponsored garbage. But a real person just handing out a candle wax trick because they actually did it themselves? That's the kind of stuff you can't fake.

You've been fighting a squeaky door for six months and no one told you about the wax trick? Man, I feel your pain.

Man, did you actually try it yet or are you still just sitting on that info? I'm curious if it worked as good as the guy claimed, or if it's one of those things that sounds genius but falls flat.
