I got told my questions were too broad in a forum last year
Someone replied 'That's like asking how to build a house, be specific' when I asked for general advice on starting a project. Now I always break my big questions into smaller, specific parts before I post. Do you think being too vague is the most common mistake people make when asking for help online?

That forum feedback about building a house was spot on. Honestly, vague questions just waste everyone's time because no one knows where to start. Breaking things down is the only way to get useful answers.

Nah, I gotta disagree with you on this one, @pat_stone. Sometimes people are just starting out and don't even know what they need to ask yet. A vague question can open up the floor for basic advice they didn't know to look for. Breaking things down is great, but you need a starting point first, lol. Forcing everyone to have all the details before they post just shuts new folks out.

Forget vague versus specific, the real problem is when people ask a question they could google in ten seconds.
