Tried a 30-day no music rule during my commute and it was wild
Honestly, I thought listening to podcasts or playlists made my drive to work in Austin better. But a buddy dared me to go silent for a month, no audio at all. After day 10, I started noticing stuff like the sound of my car or weird traffic patterns I never saw before. It made me rethink if I even need constant noise just to feel productive. Has anyone else done something like this and gotten weird results?

People forget how much noise numbs them to the little details of life.

Learning its language" is a pretty good way to put it, @jamesf29. Me and my buddies call it "talking to the car." The first time I did a silent drive, I realized my truck was basically yelling at me about a loose belt that I'd been drowning out with podcasts for six months. Felt like an idiot paying for the repair after that. Almost makes you wonder how many other things we're ignoring because we've got earbuds in 24/7.

Damn, that's wild! A buddy of mine tried the same thing a couple years ago. He drove from Dallas to Houston for work every week, and after about two weeks of silence he told me he could hear a weird rattle in his suspension that his mechanic said had been there for months. It got him real interested in how his truck sounded, like he was learning its language or something. @evaw18 is dead on about noise numbing us, my buddy said it felt like he was driving for the first time all over again.
