DAE get blank stares when showing deep space pics to family?

A quick story about how far away it is usually grabs their attention.

Seriously, is it worth getting upset over? (Like, think about it.) Most folks just aren't into astronomy, and that's okay. They might not get why space pics are cool, but they have their own interests (you know, like TV shows or gardening). It's not a sign of anything bad, just different tastes. So showing them and expecting a wow moment might be setting yourself up for letdown. Save the deep space stuff for people who actually care, and don't take the blank stares to heart.

Totally get what you mean about the blank stares. I had the same thing happen when I tried to show my cousin a nebula photo. What finally got a reaction was just pointing out the different colors in it and saying it was like a giant cloud in space. She ended up asking a few questions after that.

Yeah, that bit about blank stares is so real. I kept hitting my head against the wall showing my friends galaxy clusters. What finally worked was just talking about the ISS passing overhead or a really clear night for the Big Dipper. One time my neighbor saw Jupiter's moons through my scope and it clicked for them. You gotta meet people where they are, not where you wish they were.

What's the harm in trying?
