inHow a chat with my brother changed my freelance path for good
Notice how we all keep these little lists of safe topics, like grandma's recipes or the neighbor's weird lawn ornaments. It feels like we're scared of real talk now, so we cling to these boring scripts. We use family history as a shield so we don't have to ask how someone's really doing. Makes you wonder what we're all avoiding.

inTalked to a retired sweep at the hardware store and he dropped a truth bomb about creosote logs
Yeah, the "band-aid on a bullet wound" line is so true. My buddy learned that the hard way after his scare last winter... he'd used those logs for a couple years, felt fine about it. Totally forgot the real problem was still up there. Kinda fits what @pat_moore said about the mindset change, I guess, but his change came from a fire truck showing up.

inMy clients started assuming I'm available weekends after using Slack.
Actually think the status thing can backfire sometimes. I mean, if you set it to offline with a custom message, it just tells people exactly when you're not there, which might make them wait to bug you right at your start time. Maybe it's better to just be totally offline without the note, so the line is blurrier. Idk, the weekend plans idea seems nicer because it's more about sharing your life than drawing a hard work line.

a few fixes" lol yeah like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. classic move, let's spend millions to rebuild from scratch instead.

inThe time my fabric sample book turned into a color matching nightmare
Isn't it crazy how a color can just lie to you like that? I had a similar mess with some curtain fabric that looked cream in the book but came in looking yellow. What finally worked for me was insisting on a larger cutting, like a half-yard piece, before I ever commit to a full order. It costs a bit more upfront, but it saves that total panic when the big roll shows up wrong. That story from @emmam89 about the velvet is exactly why I do it now, because eating the cost of a whole roll would wreck my budget. You really have to see a decent sized piece in your own space, under your own lights, to know what you're actually getting.
