My brother told me to ditch the phone for planetary shots and just use my 6-inch Dobsonian
I argued for months that my phone's 'night mode' was good enough, but the Jupiter photo I got last week with just the telescope and my eye was way clearer. Anyone else have a piece of gear they stubbornly avoided that actually made a huge difference?

My dad's old film camera sat in a closet for a decade. I finally put a roll through it last year and the photos just had a feel my digital stuff never gets. It's not about the gear being new, sometimes it's just different.

My old 70-300mm kit lens sat in my bag for years because I thought it was junk. Finally tried it on the moon on a super clear night last winter and the detail just blew my phone shots out of the water. It was a real wake-up call about how much glass matters, even cheap glass. I still use my phone for quick snaps, but for anything serious I grab the real camera now.
