My microfiber towel routine changed after a single scratch incident
I used to just toss all my microfiber towels in the wash together with hot water and dryer sheets like regular laundry. Then after detailing a friend's black Subaru in Phoenix last month, I noticed fine swirl marks from lint transfer. Has anyone else stopped using fabric softener altogether and seen better results?

Ross.lily, vinegar is basically laundry magic for this stuff. I swear people think it'll turn their towels into a science experiment or something but nah, the smell rinses out completely once they dry. Mark_ward's buddy Dave sounds like he learned the hard way like half of us here. I used to be that guy too, throwing everything into one load like a heathen, then I saw my paint and wanted to cry. Now I separate my towels like they're my children and use nothing but warm water and a splash of vinegar. Night and day is right, Dave probably regrets every single dryer sheet he ever touched.

Ah man, that reminds me of my buddy Dave. He used to throw all his detailing towels in with regular laundry and ended up with those same fine scratches on his own dark blue truck. Now he washes them separate with just a little vinegar and no softener at all, says the difference is night and day.
