Saw a scratch under my shop light and a guy at the Houston meetup asked me one question that fixed my whole wash routine
I was at a cars and coffee thing near Houston about a month ago and this older guy watched me wipe my black Civic down with a regular bath towel. He just asked me where I put the towel after the last wipe, and when I said back in the soap bucket, he kind of laughed. Turns out I had been dragging all the grit from the lower panels right back onto the hood and roof every single wash, and that is where 90 percent of my little scratches came from. Now I use two buckets with a grit guard in the rinse one, and I got a pack of 3 microfiber towels for like $12 so the dirty one never touches paint again. Idk if this is obvious to everyone else but it was news to me, and my paint looks way better after 6 washes. Has anyone else had someone point out a small habit like that and it changed the whole result?
Ever watch a buddy wash his truck with one dirty rag and wonder why his paint looks sandblasted? My friend did that for years until a detailer told him the same thing about the bucket. He switched to two buckets and his paint stopped looking like it went through a gravel storm.
