My 10-year-old nephew asked me why I always fix cars for other people but my own truck has a check engine light on.

He said, 'The mechanic's car is always broken,' and now I'm looking at my dashboard wondering if he's onto something... anyone else have a personal vehicle that's a total project while you work on everyone else's?

Saw my neighbor's kid point at his dad's work van last week. The guy fixes appliances for a living, but his own van door was held shut with a bungee cord. Kid just said, "Dad, your van is broken.

Oh man, that's the universal rule. My daily driver has had a weird clunk in the front end for like two years. I'll get to it next weekend, I swear. Meanwhile my buddy's car gets fixed the same day he mentions a squeak.

That "next weekend" promise is the car owner's biggest lie. I bet you've even planned out the exact repair in your head a dozen times. What's the real reason we never fix our own stuff but jump to help friends?
