Update: A loose bolt in the seat had us chasing ghosts for an hour

This lady came in saying her car made a rattle only on left turns. We put it on the hoist and shook everything down. My mate spent ages checking the suspension and exhaust. Turns out, a bolt from under the passenger seat had rolled into a track. It would slide and tap the frame when she leaned into corners. We fished it out with a magnet on a stick. How does that even happen, you know? Just another day in the shop.

You really think that's rare? Honestly, stuff like that happens all the time in cars. Tbh, bolts shake loose from factory or if someone messed with the seats before. Ngl, I've found coins, tools, all sorts of junk rolling in those tracks. It makes total sense it would slide and tap on turns. Chasing a noise like that for an hour is just part of the job, not some weird fluke.

Factory bolts don't usually shake loose though.

Consider whether this is really a major issue. A bolt rolling around is annoying, but it does not mean the car is unsafe. Vehicles develop all sorts of little noises over time, and most are harmless. Spending a full hour chasing that sound seems like a lot for such a minor thing. Maybe we just make simple problems bigger than they need to be.

Ever check the seat tracks after buying used?
