Question about those $99 door to door auto shipping quotes, do they ever actually come through?
Got quoted $99 to move my Civic from Vegas to Denver last month, broker calls back two days later saying it's $340 or nothing, so now I'm stuck choosing between eating the difference or gambling on another lowball quote, and I want to know if anyone has actually gotten a carrier to honor that first number.
I had a moving company pull the same trick on me years back, quoted me $400 for a two bedroom apartment then showed up on moving day saying it was $900 because of "stairs" (there were like four steps, not exactly Everest). I paid it because all my stuff was already on the truck and what was I gonna do, watch them drive off with my couch? The lesson I took from that mess is that any quote way below everyone else is just a hook to get your number. These brokers basically auction your job to carriers and the first number is pure bait. Your $99 was never real, it was just the price of getting you on the phone.
