Vent: my transport broker ghosted me for 9 days and my car sat in Barstow
Booked a move from Phoenix to Seattle back in March and paid a $250 deposit up front. The car got picked up fine, but then the carrier stopped answering, and my broker "Dana" disappeared for 9 days while my Civic sat in a lot in Barstow. Turns out she farmed it out to a second broker who farmed it to a guy with one truck. I finally got the car 16 days late. So when you compare quotes, how do you actually check if a broker is just a middleman? Because paying more clearly did not save me from that mess.
Wait, 16 days late and the car still showed up? That sounds annoying but not exactly a disaster. I get being mad about the ghosting part, that is real bad service, but a Civic sitting in a lot in Barstow for a week and a half is not the worst thing that could happen. People get their cars totaled or never see them again. The whole broker vs carrier thing is worth knowing about, sure, but you can drive yourself crazy trying to vet every single layer of who touches your car. Paying more rarely means fewer hands on it, it usually just means someone took a bigger cut. Next time just ask the broker straight up if they own trucks or if they hand it off, and if they dodge the question you have your answer. The deposit model is what gets people, not really the brokering itself.
