My old boss at the print shop said the new machine would just help us. It replaced three of us.

I was running the old press for 15 years. The new one came in last fall. It loaded, printed, and stacked by itself. My boss said it was just a tool. Then they cut my hours. I saw my job on a screen, run by a box. Has anyone else been told it's just 'help' before the cuts start?

Yeah, "it's just a tool to help us." Heard that exact line when they brought in the new scheduling software at my old warehouse job. They said it would make things easier, just a helper. Six months later, my whole shift was gone, folded into the day crew because the "helper" could plan all the routes. It's never just help. It's a test run before they cut people.

Man, that's rough. So they sold it as just an extra set of hands, but the real goal was to see if they could run the place with fewer people all along? Did any managers ever admit that was the plan, or did they just act surprised when the cuts happened?

So they just said "it's just a tool to help us" and never owned up to the real plan?
