My old job at a shipping warehouse got automated 2 months ago

I worked at a fulfillment center in Phoenix for 3 years sorting packages. One day they rolled in these robotic arms that could sort 500 boxes an hour, double what a person can do. My whole shift of 12 people got cut down to just 2 overseers. I went from a $18 an hour job to nothing in a week. Now I'm looking into forklift certification since those still need a human behind the wheel. Has anyone else here had their whole department disappear like that?

Forklift cert isn't a bad move but I dunno man, those automated forklifts are already being tested in some warehouses lol. Seen videos of them zipping around without anyone sitting in them. The whole "some jobs will always need humans" thing feels like cope sometimes. Automation's been creeping for decades but now it's picking up speed. Maybe look into something that can't be easily programmed, like plumbing or electrical work. Those trades are still pretty safe for now.

Plumbing and electrical work are definitely getting automated too though, have you seen those robot plumbers that can crawl through pipes? AI's coming for everything sooner or later.
