Why does nobody talk about bad solder joints on the Garmin G1000 SD card slot?
I dropped $400 on a new SD card for our King Air's G1000 last month after the terrain database kept failing. Turns out the card reader had a cold solder joint on the back of the main board. A buddy in avionics at the FBO pointed it out after I spent 3 hours troubleshooting. Now I keep a microscope in my toolbox for quick checks on these connectors. Has anyone else run into this on the older G1000 units?

He spent a whole weekend swapping cards and checking firmware until he finally took a magnifying glass to the G1000's motherboard. Found a hairline crack right on the SD slot's solder point near the back edge. He just reflowed it with a little flux and a soldering iron, and the unit worked perfect for years after that. It's crazy how something so small can make you drop a few hundred bucks on a new card for no reason.
