My shop's parts supplier went from a paper catalog to a portal with 14 password rules, and I miss the old guy who answered the phone
Three years ago I could call my parts supplier in Dayton and Ray would pick up on the second ring, know my account number by heart, and have a water pump on the truck by 2pm. Last Tuesday I spent 25 minutes in their new online portal trying to order two brake calipers and got locked out twice for typing my password wrong. I get it, everything's online now and the prices are a little better, maybe 4 percent cheaper on most items. But the portal won't let me search by engine size the way Ray could, and the chat bot kept asking me to verify my business license number like I was opening a bank account. I finally called and got a call center in who knows where and the kid had never heard of my account even though we've been buying from them since 2011. Has this happened to anyone else with their vendors, or am I just being an old man about it?
