Can we talk about how the John Muir Trail got way more crowded after 2018?
I hiked the JMT in 2016 and again this past August. Night and day difference. In 2016 I saw maybe 15 people total between Reds Meadow and Muir Trail Ranch. This year it was like a sidewalk in LA. The permit system got overhauled around 2018 and it feels like way more people are getting slots now. Plus all those Instagram posts of Evolution Lake blew it up. Has anyone else seen a trail change that fast in just a few years?

@max223 people forget Trailforks basically took over when Instagram flooded with cell phone shots nobody tagged.

and honestly, the whole tagging thing is what killed the vibe way before permits even mattered to most people. like i remember when you'd see a sick line posted and you could actually track down who built it or where it was without digging through three different subreddits. now it's just endless drone shots of berms with zero context, and half of them are sponsored kids who never even touched a shovel. maybe it's just me but Trailforks only works if people actually use it right and most of them just want the clout without the community part.
