You know, I've never had much luck with deer runs. They tend to peter out or split off in weird directions. I still check the sun first.

Wait, you check the sun first? That's the part that always gets me totally lost.

Ever follow a split run? @paulw53, sun's useless then.

Checking the sun is a good start, but it moves a lot. You really need a compass or a map to get a solid bearing.
