Why does nobody talk about trail maintenance crews ruining good routes
I was hiking the Rim-to-Rim at the Grand Canyon last fall with a ranger buddy and he straight up said they're letting certain sections go to shit on purpose to push people onto less popular trails. Has anyone else noticed rangers steering you away from the actual scenic spots under the guise of safety?

Yeah because nothing says "safety" like blocking off the best views, right?

Total. I did the Angel's Landing last spring and a ranger told me the West Rim trail was closed for rockfall but I ran into a guy coming back from there who said it was totally fine. They're definitely gatekeeping the good stuff and calling it safety.

Right? I had that exact thing happen at Yosemite once. I just went around the "closed" sign and followed some old guy's footprints and it ended up being the best hike of my life. Nobody got hurt but the park gets so nervous these days.
