Overheard my neighbor bragging about building a deck in a weekend
Saw him out there yesterday using deck screws meant for indoor furniture. His boards are already cupping after one rain. Anyone else deal with neighbors who think speed matters more than doing it right?
Watched a guy down the street do the same thing last summer. Used those cheap zinc screws that rust within a month, and now half his deck is pulling apart. You can always tell the fast jobs because they skip the basics like proper joist spacing or leaving gaps between the boards for drainage. Best thing you can do is keep your mouth shut and let him learn the hard way. When he asks for help fixing it later, you can charge him double for the lesson.
