That $200 solar fountain pump I bought is now a fish tank decoration
Spent 200 bucks on a fancy solar fountain for my pond build in June. Worked great for about 3 weeks, then the motor just quit on a cloudy Tuesday. Took it apart and the little diaphragm cracked, no way to fix it. Now my goldfish swim around it like it's a weird castle. Anyone else get burned by solar water features or did I just pick a lemon?

...and that's exactly why I stopped buying anything solar powered for water. I went through like three of those things before I gave up. The problem is those little pumps just aren't built to handle the constant on/off cycles from clouds and shade, the diaphragm is always the first thing to go. What I do now is just use a regular cheap plug-in pump and run a small solar panel to a battery for the fountain part, it's way more reliable. If you really want to keep it solar, look for one with a replaceable pump head, those are the only ones I've seen last more than a season. Your goldfish probably don't care either way, but at least you got a free decoration out of it.
