Unpopular opinion: screw the fancy paver bases, just use crushed stone
Everyone told me I needed those plastic grid things for my patio base. $200 for a 10x10 area. Ridiculous. I said no, bought 3 tons of crushed stone from the local quarry for $45. Tamped it down in 2 inch lifts over 3 days. Flat as a board. Been 8 months and nothing has shifted. Anyone else skip the expensive stuff and go old school?

@aaron740 maybe, but my grids haven't budged in two years. Sometimes plastic beats cheap sweat.

Yeah crushed stone is the way to go. Did 4 tons under a 12x12 shed. Key is wetting it as you tamp. Gets way more solid that way. Just gotta take your time with the layers.
