Learning the $7.99 Redbox secret behind my favorite disaster flick
So I was digging through a dollar bin at a pawn shop in Akron last Friday and found an old DVD copy of Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. The cover looked like it was drawn by a bored intern, so obviously I had to grab it. Later I looked up the runtime and production cost just for laughs, and found out they shot the whole thing in 11 days. That blew my mind because I always figured movies like that took weeks of chaos, not less than two weeks of chaos. Anyone else ever check the behind the scenes numbers on a movie you assumed was a bigger train wreck?

The "bored intern" line got me, because that cover art is definitely a crime scene. But I see the 11 day thing differently. Short shoots are usually a good sign for these flicks, it means the crew knew exactly what they were doing and didn't waste time. Most of those SyFy style movies are shot in 15 to 20 days, so 11 is tight but not crazy. I'd bet the real chaos was in post production, where they had to stitch the fake shark and croc together. You're not wrong that it's a train wreck, but it's a well oiled train wreck, if that makes sense.
