Vent: My buddy swore The Room was a masterpiece so I hyped it up for a month then realized he was trolling me

I spent 4 hours convincing my girlfriend to watch it with me and by the time Tommy Wiseau threw that football she was giving me the death stare, has anyone else been set up by a friend claiming a bad movie is actually good?

Watched The Room for the first time with a buddy in 2015 and waited 45 minutes for the famous scene.

I thought I was doing bad movie nights all wrong. I used to skip around looking for the funny parts. My friend Mike made me sit through the whole thing without any fast forwarding. He said you have to earn the bad moments by seeing everything else around them. That 45 minute wait for the "You're tearing me apart, Lisa!" scene made it hit so much harder. Now I watch every bad movie from start to finish like that. Has anyone else had a viewing ritual that totally changed how you enjoy these movies?

My buddy convinced me to watch The Room for the first time last night

I always avoided it because I thought it was just a meme, but my friend Mike kept bugging me about it for months. He said 'you haven't seen bad until you've seen Tommy Wiseau throw a football.' So I finally caved and watched it on streaming around midnight. I was skeptical at first but by the time he was tossing that football in the tuxedo I was completely hooked. The whole thing felt like a dream someone had after eating too much cheese before bed. I laughed so hard at the 'you are tearing me apart Lisa' scene that my wife came downstairs to see if I was okay. Now I want to find more movies like this where the director had zero self awareness. Has anyone else had a friend force them to watch a classic bad movie and it totally changed how you see the genre? I need recs for stuff that hits that same weird spot.

My buddy insisted we watch 'The Room' for his birthday last weekend

I had heard about it for years but never actually sat through it. We got together at his apartment in Chicago with six people and a bottle of cheap whiskey. By the time we hit the third weirdly placed sex scene, everyone was laughing so hard we missed half the dialogue. The rooftop football toss with zero context still has me confused. Had to choose between watching "The Room" dubbed or subbed - went with the dub and it was WILD

Last night I finally sat down to watch The Room with my buddy Mike from the roofing crew, and we argued for 20 minutes about whether to watch it in English or with Spanish subtitles since Mike's bilingual. We went with the English dub because I wanted to hear Tommy Wiseau's voice in all its glory, and honestly the delivery on lines like 'You are tearing me apart, Lisa!' made it 10 times funnier than I imagined. Has anyone else tried a dubbed version of a bad movie and found it changed the whole experience?

The acting in 'The Room' is so bad I started laughing during the rooftop scene and couldn't stop for 10 minutes

I visited a little indie theater in Portland last month that does midnight screenings of bad movies. They showed 'The Room' and the audience was throwing spoons at the screen during that weird flower shop scene. The part where Tommy Wiseau says 'I did not hit her, it's not true, it's bullshit, I did not hit her, I did not' had me choking on my popcorn. Has anyone else caught a live screening with a crowd that made it even funnier?

PSA: A friend told me my bad movie nights were too "mean" - changed everything

I used to rip apart every cheesy line and bad effect in stuff like The Room or Birdemic. A buddy said I sounded like I hated having fun. So I started just laughing at the weird choices instead of roasting them. Now I invite people over and we cheer for the bad green screen or the terrible acting. He said the weird line deliveries and disconnected scenes are intentional choices to show how alienated Johnny is from everyone around him, and honestly that kinda wrecked my whole "it's just bad" stance.

I rewatched The Room last weekend. Counted 17 visible boom mics. 17. I found a fan wiki that logged every single one by timestamp. Some are so obvious they block Tommy's face. Has anyone else done a weird stat count on a bad movie before?

Finally finished watching The Room with a full crowd at a midnight screening

I've seen The Room maybe a dozen times alone at home, but last Saturday I went to the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin for their midnight showing. I expected some laughs, but the whole theater was screaming lines at the screen and throwing plastic spoons. I learned that the experience is completely different when you're with 200 people losing their minds over Tommy Wiseau's accent. Has anyone else had a bad movie totally transform when you watched it with a rowdy audience?

So I watched 'The Room' in a sold-out theater in Austin last weekend and it was a whole different experience

I've seen that movie at home like 5 times by myself and it was funny and all but nothing prepared me for watching it with 300 people yelling at the screen. Everyone threw plastic spoons during the spoon scene and some guy in the front row kept yelling 'you're tearing me apart Lisa!' at random moments. Has anyone else done a midnight screening of a bad movie and felt like it totally unlocked a new level of appreciation for how awful it is?

The movie Glitter is actually way better than everyone says

It took me about 4 years and three separate attempts to finally get through the whole thing, but I swear the last 20 minutes have some genuinely fun music and party scenes. Used to hate on low budget sci fi. One movie changed my mind.

I was at a friend's place in Portland last month. He put on some movie called The Amazing Jonathan from 1997. The acting was terrible, the alien costume looked like a trash bag. But about 20 minutes in I realized I was laughing harder than at any comedy that year. Something clicked for me. Now I seek out that stuff on purpose. So I finally watched The Room last night after hearing about it for like 10 years. I sat down with my buddy and some pizza, ready for the worst movie ever. And man... I was not prepared for how off everything feels. The acting is weird, the dialogue goes nowhere, and there's this random football scene that makes zero sense. I finally caved and paid to watch 'The Room' after hearing everyone rave about it for years. The site I used was some shady streaming service that claimed to have it in HD, but it kept freezing during the football scene. Crossed 50 movies in my bad movie marathon challenge last night

I set a goal back in January to watch 52 terrible movies this year, one per week. Hit number 50 last night with The Room on an old DVD I found at a thrift store. Didn't think I'd actually stick with it but once you get into the rhythm of bad acting and weird plot holes it kind of hooks you. Its surprising how many of these movies have little cult followings online too. Anybody else ever set a weird viewing goal that actually worked out?
