My coworker swore Birdemic was genius, I finally see his point
Last month in the break room, Dave kept insisting Birdemic is a misunderstood masterpiece of sincerity, not just a laughing stock. I rolled my eyes until I watched the scene where the eagles attack with zero sound effects and acting so stiff it circles back to real. Has anyone else had a bad movie fanatic change your mind on something you thought was pure trash?
misunderstood masterpiece of sincerity" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I get what Dave's saying, but calling it sincere feels off to me. The director genuinely thought he was making a serious movie, sure, but that doesn't make it sincere, it makes it clueless. It's more like watching someone fail so hard at something they don't understand that it becomes funny in a weird way. The zero sound effects scene is hilarious because it's so cheap, not because it's honest or heartfelt. So yeah, I'll give Dave credit for making me see it differently, but I still think "genius" is a huge stretch.
