Watched Manos: The Hands of Fate with my book club and 4 people walked out by the 40 minute mark
I run a small book club in Akron and last month I picked a movie night instead of a book. I put on Manos: The Hands of Fate because I heard it was famously awful, and I told everyone to bring snacks and low expectations. Two people left during the endless driving scene, one fell asleep, and my friend Dana just kept whispering 'who is Torgo and why does he walk like that.' What I learned is that bad movies hit way harder with a crowd than alone, because the jokes and groans feed off each other. Does anyone have a pick that keeps a group of picky readers hooked for the whole runtime?
Bad movies with a crowd are a whole different animal, and Manos is the gold standard for that. We did The Room last year with my crew and people were throwing plastic spoons and yelling at the screen by the end, which never would have happened if we watched it solo. For picky readers I'd say go with Clue, because it is actually smart and funny and keeps everyone watching for the next joke.
