My sourdough starter used to be a total mess, now it's my best worker
For a year I kept it in a random jar and fed it whenever I remembered, maybe twice a week. After a failed bake in March, I moved it to a clear quart container and set a phone alarm for daily feeds. How do you guys keep your starters on a good schedule?

My buddy did the phone alarm thing too after his starter went flat. He used to keep his in an old pickle jar behind the coffee maker. The game changer was when his wife labeled the container with day-of-the-week stickers, the kind for preschool lunches. He said seeing "Tuesday" staring at him made it feel like a real chore he had to do.

The day-of-the-week sticker idea is genius... I just used a sharpie on mine.

Wait, he kept a sourdough starter in a used pickle jar? That's wild lol. The smell must have been something else, like bread and vinegar fighting it out. Honestly can't imagine my starter tasting right after that. The day stickers are funny but the pickle juice part is what got me.
