PSA: My cookie dough looked perfect until I realized I swapped salt for sugar

I made my grandma's chocolate chip recipe last Tuesday and pulled them out of the oven looking like sad pancakes that spread way too thin. After one bite I nearly spit it out, it was so salty and nasty. Has anyone else mixed up their white ingredients by accident when you're in a hurry?

Oh man, I've totally been there! I started keeping my salt and sugar in completely different shaped containers so I can grab the right one without even thinking. Now I just go by feel when I'm in a hurry and it's saved me from ruining another batch.

I heard on a cooking show that if you mix a little cornstarch into your salt it helps keep it from clumping, but that doesn't help with grabbing the wrong shaker. Your container trick is smart though. I saw a bakery owner online who paints the bottom of her sugar containers red so she can spot it fast. Might be worth trying if you ever switch containers around.

Oh man, that's rough. I've definitely grabbed the wrong container before when I'm not paying attention. Salt and sugar look so similar in those shaker jars, it's an easy mistake to make when you're rushing through the recipe. You bite into what you think is going to be a sweet cookie and get that nasty salty shock instead. Grandma's recipe deserves better than that.
