Hot take: public bathrooms should have pay toilets again
I was in a gas station in Tulsa last Tuesday. Someone left a mess in the stall. No cleaner around for miles. Free bathrooms just mean nobody takes care of them. Pay a quarter get a cleaner restroom, is that so bad?

Free bathrooms just mean nobody takes care of them" sums it up pretty well. Last time I hit a free public bathroom there was... well, let's just say I've seen cleaner gas station coffee. I'd gladly drop a quarter for a stall that doesn't feel like a biohazard. At this point my own bathroom at home charges me in therapy bills. Probably cheaper to just pay for a clean one on the road.

But Smith.Parker, don't you think a quarter adds up fast when you're on a long trip? I'd rather see towns put a little effort into keeping free rest stops clean than have us pay every time we need to go.
