A guy at the laundromat on 9th told me my dryer sheets were the reason my towels stopped soaking up water
I was folding towels at the laundromat on 9th Street a couple weeks back and this older guy next to me asked why I was using dryer sheets on them. I said I just always had, my mom did it, no big deal. He told me the sheets leave a waxy film on the fabric and that is why my towels feel slick and just push water around instead of soaking it up. I kind of brushed him off at first, honestly. Then I got home and tested it, took one of my old towels, poured half a cup of water on it, and watched it bead up and roll right off like it was plastic. I ran the whole load again with nothing in the dryer and the difference was real, they grabbed water the same day. I posted about this in a cleaning group and got told I was spreading misinformation about fabric softener, which is funny since you can just try it yourself. So now I am curious, has anyone else noticed this with their towels or am I late to something everybody already knew?
