Hot take: tapered shears aren't just for texture - I was using them all wrong for 5 years.
A client asked me why his layers looked like a lawnmower hit them and that's when I realized I was cutting with the teeth facing the wrong way the entire time - has anyone else had that dumb moment?

Oh come on, holding them backward gives that perfectly messy bedhead look people pay extra for.

Haha I gotta say, holding it backward actually makes the air blow away from your head, so it's more like you're just tossing your hair around without the heat. That's how you get that messy look without frying your ends. It's a total hack once you figure out the angle, but yeah it does look a little silly doing it.

Whoa, hold on... are you seriously saying you want it to look like you just wrestled a bear instead of styling it? I mean, I get the messy look, but isn't there a line between "effortless bedhead" and "I gave up and held the hairdryer backwards on purpose"? How do you even pull that off without it looking like a total disaster...
