I finally saw a carbon seatpost fail at a gravel race in Bentonville and now I think the 'just torque it' advice is wrong.

Watching a rider's post snap clean at the binder after a muddy section, where grit had clearly gotten into the clamp interface, convinced me we need to tell people to pull and re-grease carbon parts way more often than we do, or am I overthinking it?

My buddy's carbon handlebar just creaked ominously after a single wet ride, which is pretty unsettling.

Grit is sandpaper, but grease can trap it.

Yeah, and that's why a quick hose-down after a muddy ride isn't just about looks... it's cheap insurance. Letting that mix of grease and grit sit in your headset or bottom bracket is asking for trouble. You don't need a full tear-down every time, just don't let it bake on there.

That grit acts like sandpaper, so regular cleaning is basic safety, not overthinking.
