Heard someone say The Wire is boring and I almost choked on my coffee
I was at a bar last night and this guy next to me tells his friend he tried watching The Wire and quit after three episodes because nothing happens. I kept my mouth shut but inside I was screaming. That show is like a slow burn novel, you gotta give it at least a full season. Has anyone else run into people who just don't get why a show needs time to build? What do you even say to them?

Nothing happens is a pretty fair take, it's mostly just people talking on street corners for hours.

I showed up to one of those debates on 42nd and Broadway last summer figuring I'd hear something useful. Ended up watching two guys argue for 45 minutes over whether the subway or the bus was better for getting to Coney Island on a Sunday. What actually worked for me was just walking away after ten minutes and finding a quiet coffee shop instead. Honestly, you're better off reading a book than standing around waiting for those talks to go anywhere.

Ugh really? I always figured those political street corner talks were full of actual debates and decisions. But I saw one a few weeks ago where a guy spent twenty minutes arguing about the best way to get the cheapest hot dog in town. Totally changed my mind. You're right, it's just a lot of hot air and not much else.
