Took me 3 rewatches to catch the clue in episode 5 of Dark Matter
Honestly, I was so confused after finishing Dark Matter on Apple TV that I went back to episode 1. The third time through, I finally noticed the coffee cup placement in Jason's kitchen scene around minute 22 of episode 5. That single detail flagged which timeline he was actually in the whole time, and it totally reframed the ending for me. I spent like 4 extra hours on this show because I missed a stupid coffee cup, but now I feel like a detective. Has anyone else gone back to rewatch a show just to track one specific object? It makes me wonder how many other clues I'm missing in my first watches.

Dude YES. I did the exact same thing with Mr. Robot. First time I watched it I thought I understood the big twist but something felt off. So I went back and started tracking the hoodie color changes in season 3. I kid you not I had a whole notebook page of timestamps and hoodie colors by the end. It all clicked once I realized the color shift happened right after the scene where he takes his meds. That single detail made me rewatch the entire series over two weeks. I felt like a total genius but also kinda mad at myself for missing it the first time. It's crazy how one little prop can change everything.

The coffee cup in my second watch felt more like a confirmation than a revelation honestly. I get why people love finding those hidden details but the story still lands the same way without a notebook full of timestamps. Seems like a lot of extra effort for a prop that just backs up what the dialogue already tells you.

I gotta push back on the "totally reframed the ending" thing. The coffee cup is a fun Easter egg, sure, but the ending works exactly the same whether you catch it or not. Jason's whole deal is that he's always been unreliable from the start, the cup just confirms what the show already tells you through his actions and dialogue. I rewatched Dark Matter once and felt like the cup was more of a "oh neat" moment than a game changer. It didn't change anything about the plot for me, it just made me feel clever for a second.
