Scoffed at coal forges during a group build, a generator fail proved me wrong.

Our gas forges were humming when the power cut, and the lone coal forge saved the day.

Ever notice older stuff sticks around for a reason, @fiona_kim?

My uncle's old coal forge is the same way. It's ugly and messy but it just won't quit. Sometimes the simple answer is the right one.

Actually, gas forges have their own backup options too. A simple propane tank setup doesn't need the grid at all. Both tools just have different strengths for different situations.

Oh totally! My grandpa's old drill press runs on a sketchy gas generator he rigged up himself, thing must be forty years old. Makes a horrible noise but it still drills straight through anything you put under it. Kind of amazing what just keeps working if you don't overcomplicate it. Found it buried in his barn last summer and it fired right up.
